Hello friends !

In every rails applications we will come across the boot.rb file. lets check what this file is and how it is useful for our application.

boot.rb:

This boot.rb file plays a major role in every rails application. When ever the server was started the environment.rb loads the boot.rb file.

That means whenever the server started the environment.rb loads the boot.rb module in which the boot.rb will do two things.

1. It will Set the RAILS_ROOT constant

if we consider the boot.rb module you can see

RAILS_ROOT = "#{File.dirname(__FILE__)}/.." unless defined?(RAILS_ROOT)

Here the RAILS_ROOT acts as a predefined global variable and loads the path of the application. So when ever some is initialized it will boot the application again for the path.

2. It adds the Rails libraries and our application’s code to the LOAD_PATH

When the environment.rb module loads the boot.rb then the rails libraries will be added to our application .

Simultaneously the load_data will be loaded with the default paths.

For example if we freeze the gems the gems will be loaded in the vendor folder of our rails application. This path will be mentioned by the LOAD_PATH variable .

This boot.rb will do these two things but these two things are major role to run our rails application. even if our boot.rb file is outdated we will not able to run the server.
